Sue Selbie grew up in rural England learning all the birds and wild flowers in the countryside around her. This love of the outdoors and nature has always been a part of her life and now her art. Soon after she moved to Portland she discovered book arts and all things paper at OCAC (Oregon College of Art and Craft). This led her to tunnel books, and 3D and 2D paper cut art. She now loves to produce new paper cut decorations, pop up scenes and cards each year for the holidays. In the last couple of years she has learned surface pattern design and is now able to take her acrylic paintings (made in one of her hand made books), and turn them into prints and patterns for cards, journals, tea towels and her annual calendar.
Sue is a paper cut artist and surface pattern designer. She uses cardstock to create multi layer paper cut decorations, ornaments and cards, working mostly from her photographs to create a foreground and background image, such as many of the PNW native birds, Portland bridges, and forest scenes. Similarly, she paints with acrylic markers, in an abstract style inspired by the plants in her yard, to create original work that she can use in prints and patterns to go on journals, tea towels and a calendar.
