Sarah Goodnough

Drawing/Painting

Northwest artist, Sarah Goodnough, creates expressive art that reflects the beauty and mystery of life. Inspired by nature and the human spirit, Goodnough combines an intuitive style of painting with techniques using texture, layers of color, and strong composition. Her paintings are distinctive visual experiences with sensitivity to mood and emotion.

Born and raised in Massillon, Ohio, Goodnough moved to Portland, Oregon in 1997 after graduating from Miami University with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications. She is a self-taught professional artist, with almost 20 years of experience. Goodnough’s work is in many private collections, corporate offices, hospitals and hotels. Her work has been at Modern Villa Gallery, in Cannon Beach, Oregon, for 18 years. Goodnough also is juried into, and shows at several prestigious art festivals throughout the year, averaging 10 fine art festivals a year for the past 7 years.

She begins with a random kaleidoscope of colors and texture using acrylic mediums on canvas or board. Next, she sketches in the concept with a paintbrush. Then she builds more layers of color and texture with glazes, splatters, scratches and drips throughout the picture. It is a spontaneous way of painting; often controlled and calculated but also allowing the paint to do what it wants. She makes calculated choices of what to keep and cover up until achieving the final effect.
