Rebekah Zeimetz

Drawing/Painting

Bekah Zeimetz is an award-winning, self-taught wildlife painter based in Eugene, Oregon. She creates acrylic paintings inspired by the enchanting beauty of the American West. Each precise brush mark is combined with thousands of others, layer upon layer, to bring flora and fauna to life using vivid color.

Bekah’s creative journey flows from the field into the studio. Prior to starting a new collection, she spends intentional moments in nature, collecting wildlife and landscape references. These moments in nature, connecting with animals (especially birds!) and plants fuel her creative endeavors and are one of her favorite parts of the process. Armed with inspiration from the most magical places, she returns to the studio which is nestled under a wise, old cedar tree and begins the process of mapping out her work. Utilizing a blend of thumbnail sketches, rough digital compositions, and preliminary paintings, she meticulously crafts each composition. After determining the final composition, she creates a more detailed sketch which she transfers onto the panel using chalk pastel. Each piece is made up of thousands (sometimes hundreds of thousands) of tiny brushstrokes. She works back to front and light to dark until she achieves her desired level of detail, and she almost always starts with the eyes because it connects her with the heart of the piece. Depending on the size and complexity, this process can take anywhere from one day to months of work. Throughout this journey, Bekah’s objective remains unwavering: to capture the allure of the wild and share its magic with you.
