Laurie Feinswog

Jewelry

Laurie Feinswog builds unique and wearable art pieces–"systems”--that suggest motion or expansion, or demonstrate basic scientific principles inspired by her work in physics, astronomy and math. She works primarily in sterling and fine silver, accenting her pieces with fused gold and precious or semi precious gems. I use texturing techniques including reticulation, cuttlefish casting, water casting, and hammering, to achieve a rough, organic look that balances the formal influence of the science that inspires me.

Laurie Feinswog, the creator behind XIKI Jewelry, spent the first 30 years of her life in school studying physics, astronomy and applied math. For the whole of her life she has been exposed to graphical representations of equations, depictions of laws of motion, colorful displays of particle collisions, topographical maps, and beautiful images of stars exploding and galaxies colliding.  Because she can't draw, Laurie designs jewelry as an outlet for this imagery. Using a variety of texturing, forging, and other fabrication techniques, she turns sterling silver, gold, precious and semi-precious gemstones into beautiful little lessons in astrophysics, math and geology. The rough organic look of her work is intended to balance the formal influence of the science that inspires her. On the "side", Laurie is also a full time IT consultant, still attends geology lectures for fun, and is always planning what her next shot at a Ph.D. might be.
