Where We Call Home: Lands, Seas, and Skies of the Pacific Northwest

Josephine Woolington, both author and musician who records and performs as Josephine Antoinette, joins WAF with her 2024 Oregon Book Awards’s winner: Where We Call Home: Lands, Seas, and Skies of the Pacific Northwest, “a collection of journalistic essays that connect and inspire; that focus on ten native species and follow her curiosity to learn” more about the world in which she grew up. “In her hands,” according to Holly J. Hughes author of Passings, “what first looks like a random selection ranging from Camas, sand hill cranes, and yellow-cedar to moss, bumble bees, and clouds becomes a window into stories of the local tribes who’ve long stewarded their kin…from an artist who attended to clouds…to a whaling chief’s moving account of how a gray whale hunt restored the Makah culture, her stories invite us to become rooted and respectful wherever we call home.” Jack Nisbet, well-known author of The Collector, says of Josephine’s award winning work: “Woolington leaves no stone unturned in exploring Northwest life forms.” You can meet her in person at WAF on Sunday, December 8th. Please check the official signing schedule published by Bird Alliance of Oregon in case of any changes before you head out.
