Mario and the Hole in the Sky: How a Chemist Saved Our Planet

The Wild Arts Festival welcomes Elizabeth Rusch and her wonderful young reader, nonfiction book Mario and the Hole in the Sky: How a Chemist Saved Our Planet. Elizabeth loves being a writer because she can “write about anything in the whole world that interests her” – and she has! Author of magazine articles, acclaimed children’s books, fiction, nonfiction and a graphic novel, she dives into many genres. In Mario and the Hole in the Sky, she tells the true life story of Mexican-American Mario Molina, who helped solve the ozone crisis of the 1980s, and helps spread inspiration to her readers through his journey: teaching positive lessons in the realms of science, the environment, and commitment to a cause. The work is beautifully illustrated by Teresa Martinez and has won a Golden Kite Award and a Green Book Award. Elizabeth lives in Portland, Oregon with her family. You can see her in person at the Book Fair on Sunday, December 8th. Please check the official signing schedule published by Bird Alliance of Oregon in case of schedule changes before you head out.
