Meet the Artist
Christopher Rich
GLASS
IChristopher Rich traveled to Murano, Italy where he studied the techniques of present-day glass masters as well as the history of glass blowing. While in Italy, he was privileged to study art with a master of painting, Professor Silvio Loffredo of The Florence Academy of Art. His studies then took him to England where he learned innovative British glass blowing techniques at the renowned International Glass Centre in Brierley Hill.
After returning to the US in 1994, Christopher settled in Portland, Oregon where he designed and built his own glass studio. There he is able to pursue his passion full-time. He strives to share his love of glass with his apprentices and students, and to create a variety of designs that bring beauty, color and joy to those who appreciate glass art. He has considered himself an artist for his entire life and has exhibited creativity since he was very young. He has worked with a variety of media, but glass is what brings him the most joy.
Glass is gathered from a 2000 degree furnace. The molten glass is then blown, manipulated, and shaped before being cooled in an annealing oven. Many different colors and varieties of glass are used in each unique piece. Art pieces are specifically designed to accent the garden landscape and patios. He creates bird baths, hummingbird feeders and a variety of whimsical and ornamental artwork.
