Christine Rains

Digital Art

Christine Rains is a Portland-based designer and illustrator. She used her early love of gardening, skill at drawing, and eye for design to pursue a degree in landscape architecture. Working at her father’s printing plant taught her a love of type and letterforms and kindled a passion for the importance of the printed word, and the significance of the design behind it. She combined those passions into her career and work in print communication and illustration.

Christine’s illustration work celebrates the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Getting out into the wilds inspires and motivates her art. She loves exploring new landscapes and navigating new trails. Using her computer skills lets Christine showcase the great outdoors with the vector-based illustrations. It's her way of sharing the natural world, and maybe inspiring others to visit these places.

Christine is a graphic designer, and avid hiker. She uses her digital design skills to recreate the beauty of the incredibly varied scenery of Oregon and Washington. With Adobe InDesign or Illustrator she uses the pencil tool to draw a line, or the pen tool to draw a series of connected points that she fills with color. It's detailed and time consuming work but the results are worth it. Prints are done locally on archival quality paper and can be a variety of sizes.
