Carisa Miller

Ceramics

LULA Pottery is understated, modern-classic, functional stoneware, thrown by an overstated, neurodivergent, chicken-loving, Oregon-born woman in her backyard garden studio in SW Portland since 2018.

Carisa Miller's work is minimal, prioritizing form and function. Lines are clean and surface decoration scant. Pieces are predominately wheel thrown, using dark stoneware under semi-matte, achromatic glazes formulated in-house or a light porcelain finished in an open pit wood fire utilizing organic combustibles provided by her chickens and garden; pine shavings, errant grains, droppings, dropped feathers, dried grasses, vines and leaves as well as aluminum, copper, and iron filaments.
