LOG LIFE

Children’s author and illustrator, Amy Hevron, showcases two new and captivating science books at this year’s WAF Book Fair. In Log Life, she tells the story of the long and beneficial role of growth and renewal played by a “nurse log” in the temperate rainforest of the Pacific Northwest. The author’s airy tone and whimsical illustrations keep the reader captivated. At the end of the book, Amy provides a list of old-growth forest sites in other parts of the United States where readers can explore more “nurse log” habitats (Ages 6-9). In her other title, City of Leafcutter Ants: A Sustainable Society of Millions, Amy introduces the highly organized and industrious leafcutter ants of Central America’s tropical forests. Through vivid prose and graphic-style close-ups, the reader learns about these fascinating and amazing insects. Did you know that pharmacists among the ant population make antibiotics from their own bodies to keep disease at bay? Interesting stuff! (Ages 4-8) Drop by the Book Fair and meet the talented Amy Hevron on Saturday, December 7th. Please check the official signing schedule published by Bird Alliance of Oregon in case of changes before you head out.
