Multnomah County sheriff's deputies rescued an injured Red-tailed Hawk near the Columbia River in Northeast Portland Monday, the sheriff's office reported.

Multnomah County sheriff's deputies rescued an injured Red-tailed Hawk near the Columbia River in Northeast Portland Monday, the sheriff's office reported.

Witnesses reported that a hawk was flopping its way across Northeast Marine Drive near the Portland International Airport about 1:15 p.m., said Lt. Mary Lindstrand, a sheriff's spokeswoman. The hawk narrowly missed oncoming traffic before falling into a drainage ditch.
