Bird count finds 72 species

It was a record-setting day on Dec. 31, when two small groups of birders counted 72 species in the Milwaukie area, up from the previous high of 65.

The Clackamas County groups were taking part in the Portland Audubon Society’s annual Christmas Bird Count. This year marked the 112th count nationally, and the 86th count in the Portland area, said Southeast Portland area coordinator Dan Strong.
