At this time, many of our volunteer opportunities are filled, but please complete a Volunteer Application so we can keep in touch with you. We'll be sure to let you know, prior to Orientation, what volunteer opportunities will be available. In the meantime, please explore our website to find more information about Audubon’s volunteer program as well as its conservation issues, membership program, Nature Store, Wildlife Care Center, educational trips and classes, and lots of other great information.

Why volunteer with the Audubon Society of Portland?

The answer is easy and found in our Volunteer Vision and Value Statements:

  • Volunteers are the stewards of the natural world.
  • Volunteers make a difference.
  • Volunteers engage the community as contributors and learners.
  • Volunteers are valued.
  • Volunteers enjoy the diversity of wildlife, nature, and people.
  • Volunteering is fun and invigorating.

Volunteer Orientation

Volunteer Orientation is required of all new volunteers. During orientation, you’ll learn more about the Audubon Society of Portland and hear about the exciting opportunities available and benefits of volunteering. Volunteers who would like to volunteer in a capacity beyond special events must attend General Volunteer Training on Saturday, February 24, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in addition to Volunteer Orientation.

Where: Heron Hall, 5151 NW Cornell Road, Portland, Oregon 97210

NOTE: There is a $20 fee that is payable at Orientation. The fee covers your volunteer namebadge and t-shirt as well as a one-year membership in the Audubon Society of Portland ($25-$35 value). Please bring cash or check to Orientation as we cannot take credit or debit cards at that time. If this presents a financial hardship and would prevent you from volunteering, please contact the Volunteer Manager to arrange for a partial scholarship.

New volunteers will be asked to choose one of two Audubon volunteer options at Orientation:

  • Regular, on-grounds volunteer
  • Special Event volunteer

Regular, on-grounds volunteers are required to attend training on Saturday, February 24, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This training will provide new volunteers with needed background information about Audubon, in general, including its sanctuary grounds and programs. New volunteers will sign up for volunteer opportunities that interest them at the conclusion of this training.

Special Event volunteers are encouraged, but not required, to attend the above training.
